LOS ANGELES - LMU women's basketball put up big numbers in its final tune-up before Saturday's official season opener, outlasting Bethesda University, 101-81, in an exhibition game Monday at Gersten Pavilion.
The Lions used a 30-11 third quarter to open up a close affair and maintained the spread for the balance of the game.
Sophie Taylor led the Lions for the second consecutive outing, notching a double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds. The senior guard also had seven assists, leaving her three helpers shy of a triple-double.
Joining Taylor in double figures were Bree Alford with 14 points, Marcella Hughes with 12 and Leslie Lopez-Wood with 10. NK Ilang finished a point shy of a double-double, collecting nine points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Cheyenne Wallace had 10 boards and seven blocks.
LMU opened up an 18-10 lead to start the game and led 22-16 at the first quarter break. Bethesda kept things close in the second quarter and LMU took a slim 43-40 lead into halftime.
Leading 51-43 with 8:16 remaining in the third quarter, the Lions went on a 17-3 run opening up a 22-point advantage. LMU's lead would balloon to as many as 29 points in the fourth quarter before they settled in for the 20-point victory.
The Lions hit the road on Saturday, Nov. 14 to officially open the 2015-16 season, traveling to Boulder, Colo., for a meeting with the University of Colorado. Tip off is 2 p.m. local, 1 p.m. Pacific.
