SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Five Lions were honored for their academic efforts Friday as the West Coast Conference released its 2015 All-Academic Teams.
Seniors Jocelyn Blankenship, Cassidy Nicks and Callie Taylor, along with junior Sophia Leksan and sophomore Jill Farley all earned honorable mention honors by the WCC.
Blankenship carries a 3.20 cumulative GPA as a biology major. On the field, the midfielder leads the Lions with seven goals and four assists for 18 points.
Taylor, a health and human sciences major with a 3.34 cumulative GPA, has anchored the Lions back line all season. She has led LMU to nine shutouts while also scoring one game-winning goal.
Nicks, a marketing major with a 3.30 cumulative GPA, has appeared in 13 matches off the bench, contributing one goal and one assist this season.
In her second season as a marking back for the Lions, Farley leads the team in minutes played while also contributing one goal and three assists. The communications studies major carries a 3.37 cumulative GPA.
Rounding out the honored Lions is Leksan, an applied information management systems major with a 3.29 cumulative GPA. On the field, she has started 10 games in goal, made 30 saves, has five shutouts and holds a 1.25 GAA.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, be in their second season of competition and also being a significant contributor to her team. This season no fewer than 62 WCC women's soccer student-athletes met the criteria for selection easily outdistancing the 53 eligible in 2014.
The Lions hit the pitch for the final time this regular-season on Saturday, hosting Wells Fargo PCH Cup rival Pepperdine at 7 p.m. on Sullivan Field.
