LOS ANGELES - Five different Lions found the back of the net Sunday afternoon as the LMU women's soccer team turned in an all-around fantastic team performance for a 5-0 shutout of West Coast Conference foe Gonzaga.
The win puts the Lions at 5-1-0 in WCC play, moving them into a tie for first place alongside San Francisco. LMU is now 11-4-1 overall, reaching the 11-win mark for the first time since 2009. The squad also remains an unbeaten 9-0 on its home Sullivan Field with one more home match remaining in 2015.
Senior Morgan Hilby got things going for the second straight match, netting the game-winner at the 16:02 mark off of a combination from Emma Tyrnauer and Ally Andreini.
Jocelyn Blankenship made it 2-0 in the 24th minute with her team and WCC leading seventh goal of the season. The senior midfielder attempted to send a cross into the box, but had it blocked away by a Gonzaga defender. Undeterred, Blankenship followed the lose ball and drove it into the back of the net.
Tyrauer and Nikki Martino would go on to score in succession in the 31st minute, doubling the Lion lead. Forty yards out from goal, Tyrauer took a short pass from Melissa Lewis and dribbled straight up the open field before sending a shot past the reach of Gonzaga goalkeeper Christie Tombari.
Moments later, Martino would score an unassisted goal, following her own shot off the post and sending it into the open net. Callie Taylor wrapped up the Lion scoring in the 74th minute, heading home a corner kick cross from Lewis.
LMU finished with 21 shots to Gonzaga's five. Goalkeepers Charlee Pruitt and Sophia Leksan combined for the Lions' eighth shutout of the year.
Three matches remain on the Lions' regular-season slate, beginning Thursday, Oct. 29 at San Diego. The week continues on Saturday, Oct. 31 with a key match-up at BYU.
