2015 MLS Draft Results
LOS ANGELES - LMU defender Craig Nitti was selected by the Vancouver Whitecaps FC as the 72nd overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft Tuesday, becoming the seventh all-time Lion men's soccer player to be drafted by a Major League Soccer club.
Nitti, a 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA DI Men's Soccer All-Far West Region Second Team selection and 2014 First Team All-West Coast Conference pick, Nitti anchored the LMU back line to nine shutouts and a 0.68 GAA this past fall, including four shutouts and just four goals allowed in WCC play. He also supplied key offense, finishing with five goals and one assist for 11 points.
For his career, the 6-5 defender made 59 starts, appeared in 70 total matches and logged 5,720 minutes. He finished with 11 goals, including four game-winners, and four assists for 26 points.
He was among 55 NCAA Division I college seniors invited to participate in the 2015 adidas MLS Player Combine Jan. 8-13 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the second Lion to earn the honor.
Nitti is the first Lion selected in the MLS Draft since Tyler Krumpe and Logan McDaniel were picked in 2012.
