LOS ANGELES - On a night when they honored their 50th season, the LMU men's soccer team put on a show, running away with a 4-0 shutout of Grand Canyon Friday on Sullivan Field.

The 2014 season marks the 50th NCAA recognized season of LMU men's soccer, and as the university celebrates its annual alumni barbecue weekend, the Lions took the opportunity to welcome back their program's alums, including Tom Busby '68, a member of the inaugural squad in 1965.

The scoring began in the 21st minute as an unlucky Grand Canyon (2-4-1) attempt to head the ball out of the area found its way into the back of the net, giving the Lions an early 1-0 advantage.

LMU (3-3-2) made it 2-0 in the 36th minute on Antonio Porreco's first collegiate goal. Sebastian De Rada worked the ball to the left end line inside the box, then slotted a pass across the goalmouth for Porreco to one-touch into the net.

The Lions would go on to score their first second-half goal of the season when Craig Nitti converted a penalty kick attempt in the 51st minute, pushing the lead to 3-0.

Adrien Perez would make it 4-0 in the 70th minute on a nifty left footed shot through traffic that made its way into the far post netting. Alvaro Madrigal and Mark Dotseth earned assists on the goal.

Paul Blanchette posted his first shutout of the season, making four saves in the process. The Lions held a 12-7 shot advantage and were able to empty their bench down the stretch.

The Lions return to action on Friday, Oct. 3, hosting Santa Clara in a 4 p.m. tilt at Sullivan Field.
