IRVINE, Calif. - The LMU women's soccer team rallied from a 1-0 deficit with a pair of second-half goals to clinch a 2-1 victory at UC Irvine Friday night.
The Lions improve to 6-2-1 on the season with the victory, snapping a six-game unbeaten streak by the Anteaters (4-5-2).
The teams played an even battle through the first half with six shots apiece, but UCI would sneak in a goal with just two minutes remaining in the frame. An initial shot attempt by Alex Karlowitsch hit the crossbar and came back into play where Laura McGrail was able to knock the rebound back into the net.
Undeterred, the Lions found the equalizer at the 57:09 mark as Callie Taylor sent a long through ball up the central midfield to Shannon Kent who sent a shot just inside the right post for her third goal of the season.
Twelve minutes later freshman Maddie Medved netted her first collegiate goal, taking a low cross into the box from Nikki Martino and knocking a shot in from just inside the six.
The Anteaters earned an 18-9 shot advantage for the balance of the game, including a 12-3 edge in the second frame, but LMU's Sophia Leksan made six second-half saves as the Lions held on for the come-from-behind victory.
LMU returns home to Sullivan Field on Friday, hosting CSUN at 4 p.m. All LMU Alumni BBQ ticket holders will receive free admission to the game with their BBQ name tag.
