LOS ANGELES - The LMU men's soccer team makes a rare midweek trip across the country, traveling to face Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Tuesday, Sept. 23. Kick off at XU Soccer Complex is scheduled for 7 p.m. local and 4 p.m. Pacific.
The Lions enter the match at 2-2-2 overall following a heartbreaking 2-1 double overtime setback to then No. 6 ranked UC Irvine on Sept. 18. After giving up an early goal to the Anteaters, the Lions bounced back with goals by Sebastian De Rada and Akio Ohtake-Gordon. But UCI would force overtime with the equalizer just 18 seconds before time expired. The Anteaters went on to convert a PK chance in the second overtime period to complete the comeback.
Through six matches, De Rada leads the Lions with two goals and three assists for seven points. Adrien Perez has two goals and two assists for six points. Four other Lions have scored once while freshman Alvaro Madrigal and Grant Sampson have three assists apiece.
Xavier comes in a 4-3-0 overall and fresh off a 1-0 win at Bucknell on Sept. 20. The Musketeers have played a pair of overtime affairs, going 1-1 in those matches. Garrett Halfhill leads XU with three goals while Alex Ridsdale and Matt Vasquenza have two each. Kyle Martin has tallied a team-high four assists. In goal, Eric Osswald has seen most of the action, going 4-2-0 with three shutouts and a 1.35 GAA.
