WESTWOOD, Calif. - Facing their third ranked opponent in just five games played this season, the LMU softball team battled toe-to-toe with No. 12 UCLA before falling 2-0 to the Bruins Sunday afternoon.

All that separated the squads in the defensive face-off was a two-run home run surrendered to UCLA's Delany Spaulding in the home half of the third.

The Bruins (11-0) finished with three hits, two in the third inning, while the Lions (0-5) had two.

LMU sophomore ace Sydney Gouveia made her first appearance of the season, tossing six complete innings. She fanned five and walked three in her 2014 debut.

Ally Card earned the win for the Bruins after striking out 10 Lion batters.

Meghan Harman and Taryn Renowden each collected a hit for LMU.

The Lions return to action on Friday, Feb. 21 at the Amy Harrison Classic, hosted by UC Riverside. LMU will play five games at the three-day tournament, facing Seattle, Cal State Bakersfield and host UC Riverside.
