LOS ANGELES - Redshirt senior defender Craig Nitti is among 55 NCAA Division I college seniors invited to participate in the 2015 adidas MLS Player Combined Jan. 8-13 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the league announced Thursday.
The 55 seniors were selected by a committee consisting of NCAA Division I coaches from every conference and MLS representatives. They will be joined at the adidas MLS Player Combine by other seniors, including those from lower NCAA divisions, underclassmen who sign Generation adidas contracts and other international invitees, all of whom will be announced at a later date.
Nitti, a 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA DI Men's Soccer All-Far West Region Second Team selection and 2014 First Team All-West Coast Conference pick, becomes just the second Lion to earn an invitation to the MLS Combine. Matt Kovar was the first LMU player to earn the honor, earning an invitation in 2005. Kovar was later drafted by the LA Galaxy.
In 2014, Nitti anchored the LMU back line to nine shutouts and a 0.68 GAA for the season, including four shutouts and just four goals allowed in WCC play. He also supplied key offense, finishing with five goals and one assist for 11 points. For his career, the 6-5 defender made 59 starts, appeared in 70 total matches and logged 5,720 minutes. He finished with 11 goals, including four game-winners, and four assists for 26 points.
The coaching staffs from all 20 MLS teams will be on hand to scout talent for the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, scheduled to take place on Thursday, Jan. 15, in Philadelphia.
