LOS ANGELES - Four players scored in double figures for the second straight game, leading the LMU women's basketball team to a 79-62 exhibition win over Bethesda University Sunday afternoon in Gersten Pavilion.
Deanna Johnson led the Lions with 16 points, including 10-of-12 from the charity stripe, and Emily Ben-Jumbo recorded a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds. Leslie Lopez-Wood had 11 points and Sophie Taylor chipped in 10.
After a back-and-forth affair early, Ben-Jumbo would sink a pair of free throws, then feed Taylor for a jumper in the lane, giving LMU it's first double-digit lead, 33-22, with 4:28 on the clock. The Lions would lead by 13, 39-26 before the Flames would go on a 7-2 run to close out the half, cutting LMU's advantage to 41-33.
Despite struggling from the field in the second half, LMU used a 16-of-18 performance from the free-throw line to help push the spread to as many as 19 points.
Led by Ben-Jumbo's 14 boards and Taylor's nine, LMU earned a 53-43 rebounding edge, including 22 offensive boards for 16 second-chance points.
LMU officially opens the 2014-15 season on the road Friday, traveling to preseason No. 20/21 Oklahoma State. The Lions open their official home slate on Nov. 21 versus Cal Poly.
