LOS ANGELES - The LMU women's soccer team closed out the 2014 season with a 2-0 setback to San Diego Saturday night at Sullivan Field.
The Lions complete the year with a 9-8-2 overall record and 2-6-1 West Coast Conference mark. San Diego improves to 10-7-2 overall and 6-3-0 in league play.
The Toreros, who closed out the regular-season winning six of their last seven matches, struck first in the 33rd minute as Jacquelin Altschuld collected a misclear from an LMU defender and struck a shot into the corner netting for a 1-0 USD advantage.
After managing just three shots in the first half, the Lions had five chances in the second. But second-half goalkeeper Michelle Craft made three saves for the Toreros to keep LMU off the board. San Diego added an insurance goal in the 58th minute when Tara Meier took a centering pass from Julia Sherwood and sent a long crossing shot into the top right netting, past the reach of goalkeeper Sophia Leksan.
Leksan made three saves on the night, bringing her season total to 80, which ranks No. 10 in the LMU single-season record book.
LMU's senior trio of Jenni Benger, Amanda Dudley and Brianne Medved were honored in a ceremony prior to kick off.
