LOS ANGELES - Alvaro Madrigal found the back of the net four minute into the second overtime period, snapping a 1-1 tie and lifting the LMU men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting San Francisco Friday night at Sullivan Field.

The Lions move to 8-4-5 overall and 2-1-2 in West Coast Conference play while the Dons drop to 9-5-2 overall and 3-1-0 in league matches.

It was a pair of freshmen who helped LMU snap a three-match streak without finding the back of the net. Just 18 minutes into the match, the rookie Cruz Corral, in his first collegiate start, tallied his first collegiate goal, to give LMU a 1-0 advantage.

The streaking Corral collected a through ball from Adrien Perez and sent a left footed shot across his body towards the Dons' goal. His shot ricochet off a USF defender, leaving goalkeeper Chase Hauser out of position as the ball went into the back of the net.

Less than three minutes later, San Francisco found the equalizer as Danny Kirkland took a pass from Bryce Kaminski on the right wing and launched a 28-yard blast into the upper right netting.

Perez nearly put the lead back in LMU's favor int he 41st minute. Sebastian De Rada played a ball into Perez, who, with his back to the goal, turned a beautiful bicycle kick attempt. In return, Hauser came up with a huge save on the play, tipping the shot over the crossbar.

The Lions totaled seven combined shots in the second half and first overtime period, while allowing just three to the Dons. But it would be the two shots in the final frame that would put the match away.

A ball from Luc Brubaker on the left flank made it's way to Perez in the USF box, forcing Hauser's fourth save of the night. But he was unable to coral the ball and Madrigal was there to finish on the rebound for the golden goal winner at 103:43.

Two matches remain on LMU's 2014 regular-season slate, beginning Sunday, Nov. 9 at Santa Clara. Kick off at Buck Shaw Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the match will air live on thew.tv.
