LOS ANGELES - Five Lions were honored Tuesday as the 2014 West Coast Conference Women's Soccer postseason awards were unveiled. Jenni Benger and Jocelyn Blankenship led the way with Second Team All-WCC honors while Morgan Hilby and Shannon Kent were Honorable Mention selections. Rookie Sarah Sanger was named to the 2014 WCC All-Freshman Team.
This marks the second time in the careers of Benger and Blankenship that each has earned Second Team honors. Benger, a redshirt senior, was also a Second Team selection in 2012 while Blankenship was named to the team last fall.
Benger was the only Lion field player to log every minute of action during the 2014 season. Anchoring the LMU defense, she helped hold opponents to a 1.26 GAA and four shutouts. Blankenship was charged with managing the central midfield this season, finishing with a team-high six assists.
Honorable Mention selections Hilby and Kent concluded the season as LMU's top scorers. Hilby led the Lions in points with 16 on five goals and six assists while Kent totaled a team-high six goals.
Sanger becomes LMU's first All-Freshman team since Blankenship was named to the rookie squad in 2012. The freshman from Bellflower finished with two goals, both game-winners, and two assists.
