LOS ANGELES - Craig Nitti scored his second and third goals of the season last week, helping the LMU men's soccer team to an undefeated weekend and also earning himself some national recognition. The senior defender was named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week for Oct. 5 while also being named College Sports Madness' WCC Player of the Week.
Nitti, who has scored in each of the Lions' last three matches, started off the weekend by converting a penalty kick in the 81st minute against Santa Clara to knot the score at 1-1. The teams went on to play 20 minutes of scoreless overtime, setting for a 1-1 draw at Sullivan Field.
On Sunday, Nitti scored what would become the eventual game-winning goal as the Lions topped San Francisco, 3-1. The central defender also anchored a defense that withstood 24 shots by the Dons, and has allowed more than one goal to be scored just twice this season.
The Lions, now 4-3-3 on the season, return to action on Friday, traveling to face San Diego at 7 p.m.
