SPOKANE, Wash. - Courtesy goals by Shannon Kent and Morgan Hilby, the LMU women's soccer team began its final road trip of the season with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory at Gonzaga Friday afternoon in Spokane.
It was the Lions seventh all-time win on Gonzaga's home turf, moving LMU to 9-5-2 overall on the season and 2-3-1 in West Coast Conference play. The Zags fell to 8-7-0 overall and 3-2-0 in league games.
The Lions succumbed to an early 1-0 deficit when Gonzaga's Mikayla Anderson found the back of the net just 2:50 into the match. Anderson took a centering pass from Karley Baggerly and slotted a shot past the reach of LMU's Sophia Leksan.
But it would be the Lions' top two scorers who would swing the momentum LMU's way. In the 18th minute, Kent netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season off of an assist from Hilby.
Hilby would go on to net the eventual game-winner in the 39th minute, heading home a free kick off the foot of Jenni Benger.
Leksan fended off 15 first-half shots by Gonzaga with six saves and the Lion defense bore down in the second half, allowing just six shot attempts in the frame. Leksan finished the day with seven saves in her ninth win of the season.
LMU's three-game WCC road swing continues Sunday when they travel to face Portland at Merlo Field. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
