LOS ANGELES - LMU women's soccer had a two-match unbeaten streak snapped Saturday as they fell 3-0 to No. 19 ranked BYU under the lights at Sullivan Field.
The Lions came out of the gates strong, putting early pressure on the Cougar back line and collecting five shots in the first half. But BYU slowly built momentum and eventually broke through in the 42nd minute with a goal by Elisabeth Phillips.
The Cougars went on to dominate the second half, outshooting LMU 11-1 in the frame. BYU's Niki Fernandes made it 2-0 in the 49th minute and Ashely Hatch tallied her 12th goal of the season in the 62nd minute to cap the night's scoring.
Sophia Leksan made eight saves in goal for the Lions, who fell to 8-5-2 overall, 1-3-1 in West Coast Conference play. BYU extended its win streak to nine straight and is now 10-3-2 overall and a perfect 4-0-0 in the WCC.
LMU hits the road for its next three WC matches, beginning with a Pacific Northwest trip. The Lions will face Gonzaga in Spokane, Wash., on Friday, Oct. 24, followed by a road match at Portland on Sunday, Oct. 26.
