The LMU volleyball program (8-5, 3-1 WCC) recorded a 25-23, 25-16, 25-22 sweep of Portland (0-13, 0-4 WCC) on Saturday on the road in West Coast Conference play. The Lions hit a solid .363 as a team, led by 14 kills on 27 swings with only two errors from senior Kathleen Luft (.444).

The Lions also received solid play from junior Litara Keil and senior Felicia Arriola. Both players notched 13 kills and hit .476, with Keil also managing two block assists. Luft narrowly missed a double-double, teaming her match-best 14 kills with eight digs. LMU's Betsi Metter once again led all players in digs with 13, teaming that mark with four of LMU's six aces. The native of Phoenix, Ariz. now has 154 aces in her illustrious career, needing just five more to claim sole possession of the LMU all-time record.

Portland's offense was led by Makayla Lindburg with 10 kills, while Emily Liger managed nine on just 17 swings for a .353 clip. Brittney Markwith collected a pair of block solos and one block assist to guide Portland to 7.5 total team blocks.

The Lions came out of the gate quickly in the first set, hitting .353 and benefitting from six kills on 10 attacks from Arriola. The Lions improved the percentage to .400 in the second as Keil connected for seven kills on 11 attacks. Rachelle Suaava and Metter each pitched in two aces in the second. The Lions fell behind in the third set, trailing at 19-16, but came back to earn the sweep behind five kills from Arriola and four more from junior Ayana Whitaker.

LMU will return to action on Thursday when it travels to San Diego for a match at 7 p.m.
