LOS ANGELES - A trio first-half UCLA goals went unanswered by the LMU women's soccer team as the Lions dropped a 3-0 decision to the No. 4 ranked Bruins Sunday at Sullivan Field.
UCLA's Darian Jenkins scored the eventual game-winner in the 10th minute, tapping in a close range shot after a shot by Taylor Smith deflected off the left goal post.
Sam Mewis made it 2-0 UCLA at the 17:21 mark when she took a pass from Smith and knocked in a shot from the middle of the box. Kodi Lavrusky rounded out the scoring in the 27th minute when she took a pass from Jenna Richmond and slotted it into the far post netting.
The Bruins (8-1-0) were forced to play a man down for nearly 50 minutes as Abby Dahlkemper was issued a straight red card for tackling LMU's Brianne Medved on a breakaway.
The Lions (3-7-0) had a chance to get on the board following the offense as Medved was awarded a penalty kick. But UCLA goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland guessed correctly on Medved's shot towards the right, smothering the penalty attempt to preserve her shutout.
The Lions wrap up non-conference action next week, traveling to face Cal State Northridge on Friday, Sept. 27. Kick off against the Matadors is scheduled for 6 p.m.
