NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The LMU softball team moved to 16-14 on the season with a 2-0 shutout of Seattle and a 3-1 setback to Cal State Northridge Sunday at Matador Diamond.

Offense was at a premium for the Lion battery all day as they managed just 12 hits in the two games.

A two-run second was all it took in the day's opener against the Matadors, however, as Nicole Clowdus delivered a two-out two-RBI single up the middle. Stephanie Crist, who reached in a hit by pitch, and Stephanie Maciel, who singled through the left side, both scored on the play.

The Lions managed just two more hits in the game - one each by Hannah Montalban and Skylar Segura - but it would be enough thanks to another dominating performance by pitcher Sydney Gouveia. The freshman struck out 14, walked one and allowed just two hits to improve to 8-1 on the season.

In the final game of the day, Cal State Northridge manufactured a pair of runs in the second as two batters reached on back-to-back hit by pitches, then advanced into scoring position on back-to-back wild pitches. Abby Lind drew a walk to load the bases for Tiffany Lucerno, whose RBI ground out scored one run, and Mia Pagano, who hit and RBI-single through the right side.

LMU starter Dana Waldusky (4-11) settled in after the second inning, recording seven straight outs. Back-to-back hits in the Matador fifth made it 3-0 in favor of the home team.

The Lions looked to rally in the seventh as Segura pushed one run across the plate on an RBI-single to left. But that's all the Matadors would surrender for their 14th win of the season.

Segura and Meghan Harman had two hits each for LMU while Waldusky fanned six and allowed just four hits in six innings of work.

The Lions return to Smith Field on Wednesday to host Harvard in their final tune-up before Pacific Coast Softball Conference action begins Saturday. First pitch against the Crimson is scheduled for noon.
