SAN DIEGO - Hazel Ramirez poured in a season high 24 points and Deanna Johnson added 18, but it was not enough against the now 13-0 San Diego Toreros as the LMU women's basketball team fell 86-63 at Jenny Craig Pavilion Monday night.

The Lions are now 3-10 overall and 0-2 to start West Coast Conference play while the unbeaten Toreros continue the program's best start, moving to 13-0 overall and 2-0 in league action.

A ragged first half of play saw the Lions hit just 29 percent from the field, while they also recorded just one assist on their 10 field goals. Johnson led LMU in the half with 11 points while Ramirez chipped in 10.

The Toreros hit their first double-digit lead at the 8:22 mark of the first half, 27-16, and would stretch that to as many as 17 as Malina Hood hit 14 points and Alysse Barlow chipped in 10.

A 13-5 run to start the second half saw the Lions cut their deficit in half, trailing just eight, 50-42, following a Ramirez layup at the 16:24 mark.

But a 17-0 Torero run opened up a 67-42 advantage at 8:28 before a pair of Ramirez free throws ended the LMU drought.

The Lions would cut the lead down to 14, 74-60, on a Mackenzie Kerins layup, but LMU would get no closer as USD closed out the game by scoring the final seven points.

Hood led USD with 27 points while Barlow finished with 10 and Felizia Wijenberg with 10.

The Lions return home for their next two WCC contests, hosting San Francisco on Thursday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m. in Gersten Pavilion. The homestand continues Saturday, Jan. 4 versus Santa Clara at 2 p.m.
