Recap

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Playing in their first tournament of the season and their first top-five team in No. 5 Arizona State, eighth-ranked LMU learned hard lessons early and adjusted late, but fell 11-7 in the first day of play at the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invitational on Friday night.

The Lions trailed 6-3 at the break and then after five goals from the Sun Devils in the third quarter, trailed 9-4 heading into the fourth. However, the Lions posted another shutout quarter and scored three fourth quarter goals for a late charge.

Goal Claire Wright made eight saves and the Lions offense had seven different scorers as they showed their depth and quick growth as the game progressed.

Of the Lions seven goals, five where by underclassmen.

LMU will have a quick turnaround as the Invite continues Saturday as the Lions face Azusa Pacific at 11:50 a.m. and then Santa Clara in a Western Water Polo Association showdown at 4:50 p.m. Both games are at UCSB Recreation Pool.
