BERKELEY, Calif. - A Cal goal just inside the eight-minute mark ended up standing for the remainder of the match as the LMU men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Golden Bears Sunday afternoon Goldman Field/Edwards Stadium.

The Lions (2-5-1) had a 7-5 shot-on-goal and 7-4 corner kick advantage over Cal (5-2-1), but seven saves by Bears' goalkeeper Kevin Peach kept LMU from finding the back of the net.

The lone goal of the match was scored by Stefano Bonomo off of a rebound at the 7:56 mark. LMU freshman goalkeeper Paul Blanchette knocked down a shot by Tony Salciccia, but the ball came back out to the feet of Bonomo who stuck it back into the net.

LMU had five shots in the first half, including one each by Juan De Rada and John McFarlin in the final minutes of the period that were saved by Peach. The Lions put four shots on frame in the second half but Peach came up with four more saves giving the Bears their third shutout in the past four outings.

West Coast Conference action begins next week as the Lions head back on the road, opening league play on Friday, Sept. 28 at Saint Mary's.
