LOS ANGELES - Sophomore Brianne Medved and freshman Jocelyn Blankenship each tallied a goal as the LMU women's soccer team claimed a 2-1 exhibition win over Cal State Northridge Saturday at Sullivan Field.
Blankenship struck in the 14th minute for the Lions, scoring with a left-footed shot from the top of the box. Medved started the action from the left wing, sending in a lofting cross towards the top right of the goal box. Cori McGovern knocked the ball down and laid it back for Blankenship who buried it into the net.
Eight minutes later, Medved scored an unassisted goal when she collected a Matador defensive misclear and sent a low shot past keeper Cynthia Jacobo and into the right corner of the net.
Cal State Northridge cut the Lions lead in half in the 75th minute when Marisa Miller one-touched in a pass from Amanda Smith.
The Lions outshot the Matadors 12-6 while LMU's goalkeepers were forced to make just one save.
The Lions' regular-season slate kicks off with a two-game homestand beginning Friday, Aug. 17 versus Cal Poly and continues Sunday, Aug. 19 versus Cal State Fullerton. Friday's match against the Mustangs kicks off at 4 p.m. while Sunday's start is scheduled for 1 p.m.
