WCC Championship Central
LOS ANGELES - The LMU women's rowing team travels to Gold River, Calif., this weekend to compete in the 2012 West Coast Conference Rowing Championship, which takes place Saturday, May 12 at the CSUS Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma.
The Varsity Four race will take place at 9 a.m. PT, followed by the Second Varsity Eight at 9:20 a.m. and the Varsity Eight at 9:40 a.m.
In the WCC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Lions were selected fourth behind San Diego, Gonzaga and Saint Mary's. Creighton was picked to finish fifth, followed by Santa Clara and Portland.
In 2011, San Diego captured its second consecutive WCC championship. The Toreros swept all three races. In the final point standings, USD topped Gonzaga, 36 to 30. Saint Mary's finished third, followed by Creighton, Loyola Marymount, and Santa Clara.
LMU last clinched the WCC crown in 2006.
