Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Timely offense and the first shutout in nine outings led the LMU softball team to a doubleheader Pacific Coast Softball Conference sweep of Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday, 9-4 and 5-0.

The pair of wins were huge for the Lions (26-15, 4-4 PCSC), who had dropped both games on Friday to the Roadrunners (10-28, 3-5 PCSC).

Sam Fischer was the catalyst in each game, smashing a grand slam in the first game and adding a solo shot in the nightcap. The two home runs moved the senior shortstop into a tie in the LMU record book with 18 single-season long balls.

Pitching woes looked to continue in the opener as Lion starter Molly Medeiros surrendered one run in the first on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, then gave up two more in the third on an RBI double and sacrifice fly.

Trailing 3-0 in the fourth, the Lions' offense got going when Kathryn Dutton led off the inning with a solo home run down the left field line. Then, with two outs and the bases loaded, Fischer unloaded her 17th home run of the season, a grand slam that gave LMU a 5-3 lead. A two-run homer by Kelly Sarginson two batters later made it 7-3 and the Lions never looked back.

Medeiros allowed just four hits and one run over the final four innings, and improved to 15-6 on the season with her 15th complete game of the season. She finished with five strikeouts while allowing one walk and eight hits.

In the nightcap, Dana Waldusky struck out just one in seven innings, but did not issue a walk and allowed just one hit as her defense did the rest in her fourth shutout of the season.

Fischer, Samantha Nelson and Skylar Segura each collected a pair of hits while Megan Harman's two-run home run in the second inning ultimately game LMU all the runs it would need.

Nelson's RBI-single in the fourth send Segura home for a 3-0 Lion advantage. In the fifth, Fischer led off with her 18th home run of the season and Sarginson followed with her second home run in as many games, giving LMU the final 5-0 spread.

The Lions return to Smith Field for the final time this season on April 14 and 15, hosting Sacramento State in a four-game PCSC series. First pitch both days is scheduled for 10 a.m.
