SAN DIEGO - The LMU softball team took care of business Saturday at San Diego, sweeping a doubleheader from the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Coastal Division leader Toreros, 4-0 and 4-3, at the USD Softball Complex.

The wins moved LMU to 31-16 overall and 9-5 in the PCSC. San Diego dropped to 23-16 overall and 10-4 in league play.

In the opener, LMU got a standout pitching performance from Dana Waldusky in her fifth shutout of the season. The junior struck out six, walked one and scattered seven hits in seven complete innings.

Her offense, meanwhile, gave her ample support early, scoring two runs in the top of the first before adding one in the fourth and one in the seventh. The Lions jumped on the board as leadoff batter Sam Nelson opened the game with a double down the left field line. Sterling Shuster laid down a sacrifice bunt, moving Nelson to third. Sam Fischer draw a walk and stole second, putting runners on second and third for Brittney Pereda whose single to center sent both Nelson and Fischer home.

In the fourth, a Shuster double down the left field line scored Kylie Ahlo, who led off the inning with a bunt single. Fischer accounted for the final Lion run of the game, leading off the seventh inning with a solo home run to center - her 21st homer of the season.

The Lions scored first in the nightcap game, posting a three-run third inning. Ahlo led off the inning with a double to right-center, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on another passed ball. Then, with two outs and a runner on, Fischer launched her second long ball of the day, a two-RBI shot to center.

San Diego got one run back in the home half of the third on a one-out RBI double by Taylor Hensley. The Toreros then added a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to knot the score, 3-3.

In the top of the eighth, LMU snapped the tie beginning with a Fischer intentional walk. Olivia Alvarez moved Fischer to second on a sacrifice bunt and Kelly Sarginson sent the winning run home with a single to center that was then misplayed by the center fielder, allowing Fischer to score.

Molly Medeiros tossed 5.1 innings for LMU, striking out two, walking three and scattering seven hits while allowing just one earned run. Waldusky (14-8) came in to close out the final 2.2 innings and earned her second win of the day, striking out three to go along with two hits allowed.

The Lions and Toreros conclude their four-game series Sunday at noon.
