Riverside, Calif. --
In a season plagued by injuries, the Lions have looked high and low throughout their roster for support in maintaining the success their program emulates. Friday, junior RHP Dana Waldusky stepped up to the challenge. LMU (14-7) picked up two wins Friday in the opening of the Amy S. Harrison Classic, hosted by UC Riverside.
LMU 3, Quinnipiac 0 (Waldusky No-Hitter)
Waldusky (5-3) threw the Lion's first no-hitter since pitching legend Tiffany Pagano threw a 10-2 five inning win back in 2008. Waldusky's seven innings were highlighted by her five strikeouts and zero base on balls.
With only one runner reaching for Quinnipiac, after being hit by a pitch, the Lion's defense continued to protect Waldusky's no hitter with a solid defensive double play by shortstop Sam Fischer and first baseman Kelly Sarginson.
Senior Kelly Sarginson, whose second inning lead off homerun to left field allowed the Lion's to strike the scoreboard first, led the Lion's offensively. This was Sarginson's third homerun of the season and 34th in her career, making her third all time. Senior Brittany Pereda and Sam Fischer, as well as freshmen Sterling Shuster all recording hits that led to runs in the Lions 3-0 win.
LMU 1, Saint Joseph's, 0
In a game that took exactly one hour and eight minutes, the Lions came out on top of a head to head pitcher's battle between RHP Molly Medeiros and Saint Joseph's Taryn Ashway. Both pitchers gave up only three hits a piece, with Ashway striking out four and Medeiros striking out six. Medeiros (10-2) earned her fourth shutout and 12th complete game in the 1-0 victory.
Sophomore Samantha Nelson drove in the team's only run on a RBI single to left field, scoring Senior Kylie Ahlo, who reached on her second triple of the season, a long shot to center field.
The Lions are back in action Saturday in a rematch against Saint Joseph at 9:00AM in Riverside.
