Clearwater, Fla. --
After working out the kinks of two tough losses on Friday, the Lions (13-8) came in Saturday ready to take back some wins. Huge offensive efforts Saturday from senior slugger Sam Fischer helped bring the Lions back to back victories over USF and Central Michigan.
Friday
LMU dropped it's first game against Harvard 4-1 and the second to Miami Ohio, 7-2. In game two, Sam Fischer got the Lions offense on the board first with her first triple of the year, driving in Sterling Shuster. Senior Kelly Sarginson then drove in Fischer on a sacrifice to second, putting the Lions up 2-0 after one inning.
But a powerhouse sixth inning by the RedHawks that included three consecutive hits, a hit batter and then three more consecutive hits cause a six run inning that led to a 7-2 loss for the Lions.
Saturday
Saturday was a new day for the Lions and it started out with a bang as the Lions rolled over Central Michigan, 4-1. Coming off their first victory the Lions went up against the USF Bulls whom they had beaten last year at this tournament.
After a rocky start down 4-0, things started to connect in the fifth inning with the Lions took over the Bull's lead with a six run inning highlighted by senior Sam Fischer's eleventh home run of the season, this time a three run shot over the fence to give the Lions a 6-4 lead. This was the only inning the Lions scored in.
The Lions take on Boston College on Sunday in their last game before heading home to the West Coast at 6:30am Pacific Time.
