LOS ANGELES - LMU women's water polo will enter the 2012 LMU Invitational with some momenteum, moving up a spot in the national polls and earning their third conference Player of the Week as they prepare to host 14 games in two days at the Burns Aquatics Center.
Senior Kimberly Benedetti earned KAP7 Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week honors after scoring six goals in a win over No. 20 UC San Diego last weekend. It was the third honor of the season for the Lions, who also moved up one spot in this week's national poll at from seventh to sixth.
The Lions will bring that momentum into a full weekend as the Lions host the LMU Invitational for the 12th straight year. This year's field is once again dominated by WWPA foes as seven of the 14 games will be between conference teams.
This year's field includes CSU Bakersfield, Cal State San Bernardino, Colorado State, Loyola Marymount, Pomona-Pitzer, Sonoma State, and University of the Pacific. LMU will start with a pair of WWPA contests. They will start the tournament with Cal State San Bernardino at 9:15 a.m. They will then face Colorado State at 2:15 p.m. They will then face Sonoma State in another WWPA match-up to start Saturday at 9:15 a.m., followed by Pacific at 3:30 p.m.
