Home runs came from all sides of the batting order, Wednesday as the Lions took game one against the Iowa State Cyclones by a score of 6-0.
The bottom of the third inning was when bats started connecting. Senior Kylie Ahlo got things started for the Lions with a stand up double to center field. Sophomore Samantha Nelson stepped up to the plate in the one spot and crushed her first home run of the season well over the right center field wall for two RBIs. It was déjà vu all over again as Senior Sam Fischer connected for her 12th double of the season, while senior Kelly Sarginson brought Fischer and herself around the bases on a 0-2 count sending her fifth home run of the season over the left center field wall. The Lions ended the third inning 4-0.
Meghan Harman stepped up in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single up the middle, driving in Skylar Segura to give the Lions a 5-0 lead. Senior Brittany Perada drove in the Lions last RBI on a single to right center scoring Sterling Shuster from third base to put the Lions up 6-0.
RHP Molly Medeiros (14-5) had a no-hitter all the way until the seventh inning spoiled by a single to center field by Tori Torrescano. Medeiros went seven innings with five strike outs, giving up only one hit and did not walk a single batter.

Not since 2001 have the Lions ever scored 17 runs in one game. In fact, it was on this very day, March 14th, 2001 that the Lions beat UC Riverside 17-0 in five innings. Today was eerily similar, same time, same place, different opponent. LMU bats were flying Wednesday afternoon as LMU softball (20-10) beat Iowa State 17-0 in five innings. Four Lions hit multi-run home runs in just five innings.
Junior Olivia Alverez sent a message to her teammates, Iowa State, and the rest of the teams LMU will face heading into conference next week. She's back. What better way to prove it then on a first pitch three run home run that sailed along the right field line and well over the wall. Alverez, coming back from an injury, gave the Lions three of the six runs scored in the bottom of the first inning.
Adding to those three runs by Alverez were RBI singles by Sarginson, Pereda and Segura giving the Lions a 6-0 lead after just one inning.
The Lion's still had plenty of home runs left in them during the second inning. With Nelson and Fischer on base Kelly Sarginson went yard on a three run bomb that cleared the left field wall. Meghan Harman joined in on the home run fun with two strikes against her when she connected on a fast ball down the middle that cleared the left field wall for two RBIs, giving the Lions an 11-0 lead after two innings.
In the bottom of the third inning, Brittany Pereda decided it was her time to for a home run and she did so in grand fashion. Pereda launched her second grand slam of the season over left field, driving in four more RBIs. Alverez, fresh off her three run homer in the first inning added 2 more RBIs to her total on a single down the right field line.
Dana Waldusky (6-3) earned her sixth win of the season giving up only two hits and striking out five batters in the five inning outing.
The Lions look to keep swinging Saturday and Sunday March 17th and 18th as they host Seattle University with games at 10am and 12pm Saturday.
