Extra innings were not an issue Saturday, as the Lions collected a 7-4 victory over Saint Josephs. In the ninth inning senior first baseman Kelly Sarginson hit her fourth homerun of the season, driving in three RBIs and giving the Lions the lead they needed to end the game.
Bats were hot right from the start as both Sarginson and Sam Fischer drove in RBI singles in the top of the first inning. In the fourth inning, senior Brittany Pereda added to the Lion's lead with an RBI single up the middle to give the Lions a 3-1 lead.
A sixth inning rally by Saint Joseph's that included back to back RBI singles sent the game into extra innings. Junior RHP Molly Medeiros (11-2) went for seven innings, striking out two, when Junior Dana Waldusky, fresh off a no-hitter Friday against Quinnipiac, came in for relief.
After two scoreless innings, the Lion's entered the ninth inning with and RBI single by Sam Fischer, driving in Danielle Smith. This was Fischer's 36th RBI of the season and 149th career RBI, making her the new PCSC RBI leader.
After struggling to connect the bat to the ball early in the season, Sarginson stepped up again Saturday in the ninth inning and blasted a three run bomb over left field to give the Lions a commanding 7-3 lead. Saint Joseph's tried one last shot at a rally comeback in the bottom of the ninth but the Lions defense converted hits into outs to capture a 7-4 win. Molly Medeiros earned her 11th win of the season.
The Lions play their final game in Riverside Sunday as they take on host UC Riverside at 11:30am.
