FREEPORT, Bahamas - It may have been 75 degrees outside, but that didn't help the Lions inside as they shot just 22 percent from the field in a 55-33 loss to Iowa State in both teams' opening game at the Junkanoo Jam.

The Cyclones (4-0) were not much better, hitting 35 percent for the game, but utilized their size advantage inside to outscore LMU (3-3) 30-16 in the paint.

LMU trailed just 6-5 at the 14:25 mark behind three points by Alex Cowling and two from Hazel Ramirez. From there, it was all Iowa State, as the Lions went ice cold while the Cyclones reeled off 19 straight points to go ahead 25-5 with 6:57 remaining in the half.

A Mackenzie Kerins jumper broke the streak with just over five minutes remaining, but the only other point the Lions would score in the half was a free throw by Alexis Love and LMU went into the locker room trailing, 30-8.

Ramirez opened the second half with a long three, trimming the deficit to 19. The Cyclones stretched their lead to as many as 28 on three occasions before settling for the 22-point final spread as the teams tied the second half, 25-25.

Freshman Deanna Johnson came off the bench to lead LMU with six points. Cowling, Ramirez and Ashely Lovett finished with five points apiece while Danielle Pruitt pulled down a team-high seven boards. LMU finished with just a slight 51-45 deficit in rebounding despite 20 offensive boards.

Iowa State was paced by Hallie Christofferson and Anna Prins who scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. Brynn Williamson led ISU with 10 rebounds.

The Lions close out play at the Junkanoo Jam on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 9:15 a.m. (PT), facing the loser of Illinois vs. Tulsa.
