SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Less than 18 hours after a last-second winner, LMU men's water polo used a shutout second quarter to lift themselves to another road win in Western Water Polo Association action, defeating host Santa Clara, 12-7, on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions used a balanced offensive attack and a double-digit save performance from Kyle Testman to improve to 13-9 overall and 9-2 in the WWPA. Matt Stipanovich and Milutin Mitrovic scored three goals each to pace the offensive attack.

Like he did a day earlier, Matt Venner scored the first goal of the game to put the Lions up first. However, Santa Clara scored the next pair of goals to go up 2-1.

The freshman Mitrovic would then score with 58 seconds left in the first quarter to start a five-goal run by the Lions that would put them up 6-2 at the break. The Lions would shut the Broncos out for over nine minutes in taking the four-goal lead.

Mark Menis would put the Lions up for good with the first goal of the second quarter, followed by goals from Mitrovic, Vuk Cvetkovic and then a third by Mitrovic.

The Lions would stretch the lead to 10-4 on a goal from Stipanovich with 7:20 to play in the game as they coast to the win.

The Lions return home for the Burns Center finale for 2012 as they face WWPA foe Air Force on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. The game is Senior Day as the Lions will honor four graduating seniors.
