SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The LMU women's water polo team swept a pair of games in Western Water Polo Association action on Saturday at the Bronco Invitational, defeating Sonoma State, 16-8, and Colorado State, 13-7.
With the pair of wins, the Lions run their win streak against the WWPA to 33, improving to 9-0 on the season in league play and 21-7 overall. It's the 11th straight season the Lions have earned at least 20 wins.
The Lions had balance throughout the two games on the day. In the first game, Camille Hopp, Alexandra Honny, and Mary Anne Campos all had three goals as the Lions scored seven goals in the first quarter to put the game out of reach early. They would lead 12-3 at the break and 16-5 after three.
In game two, Daisy Carrillo set the town with four goals, while Erin Manke and Honny had three goals each.
Against the Rams it was tight early.
LMU lead 3-2 after one, and 6-3 at the half. The teams traded three goals each as the Lions led 9-6 after three. They then put the game out of reach with a four-goal fourth while allowing just one goal.
The Lions will finish play at the Bronco with two more against WWPA foes, facing Cal State San Bernardino at 9:20 a.m., and finishing with Cal State Bakersfield at 4 p.m.
