LOS ANGELES - No. 3 UCLA women's water polo team defeated No. 8 Loyola Marymount, 12-5, in a non-conference game at Spieker Aquatics Center on Thursday night.
LMU (23-8) received two goals from Kimberly Benedetti and Alexandra Honny. Junior KK Clark added three goals and sophomore Emily Greenwood had one pair of goals for the Bruins (21-5). UCLA also received one goal each from seniors Katie Estrada and Priscilla Orozco and sophomore Brooke Martin.
UCLA outscored the Lions each quarter, leading from the start. Reynolds scored the game's first goal with 5:37 to play in the first quarter before Martin scored on a 6-on-5 opportunity (3:02), putting the Bruins ahead, 2-0. LMU answered with a goal from Kimberly Benedetti with four seconds left in the opening period.
The Bruins used a 3-1 scoring run in the second quarter to claim a 5-2 cushion by halftime. Trailing 9-3, the Lions answered with consecutive 6-on-5 goals, cutting UCLA's advantage to 9-5 at the 5:40 mark in the third period. The Bruins scored the game's final four goals to win, 12-5.
Freshman goalkeeper Sami Hill netted nine saves in the cage for UCLA. LMU goalkeeper Elise Ponce finished with eight saves.
LMU closes its regular season at home for Senior Day on Thursday, April 21 against Cal State Northridge at 3 p.m.
