LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Lions jumped out to a 7-1 first quarter lead and never looked back in posting an 18-4 win over Cal State Bakersfield in Western Water Polo Association action on Wednesday afternoon at the Burns Aquatics Center.
Kimberly Benedetti, Alexandra Honny and Casey Flacks combined to score seven first quarter goals to burry the Roadrunners early. After CSUB cut the lead to 4-1, the Lions scored the next seven goals to take a 11-1 lead. They lead 11-2 at the break and never looked back.
The Lions improve to 17-4 on the season and 5-0 against WWPA foes. The win runs their winning streak in conference play to 29.
"We did a great job on converting on offense early," said Head Coach Kyle Witt. "When we can get a quick start, it sets the tone for the rest of the game and give us a huge advantage."
Benedetti finished with five goals to lead the Lions. All told 10 different Lions scored in the game.
The Lions will finish an eight-game homestand when they face the defending national champions, third-ranked USC, on Saturday, March 26 at 12 noon.
