LOS ANGELES - A San Diego goal scored in the ninth minute of play was all that would come of a well fought WCC match Wednesday at Sullivan Field as the LMU men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Toreros.

Despite one match remaining on the year, the loss drops the Lions out of the running for defending their West Coast Conference title as they move to 7-11-1 overall and 5-5-1 in league play. San Diego improves to 9-8-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the WCC, momentarily taking over first place in the standings with 19 points.

The run of play went in favor of the visiting Toreros early, leading to the goal by Connor McFadden at the 8:36 mark. Christian Duke played the ball back to Stephen Posa who sent a cross in to McFadden for his third goal of the season.

Following the San Diego goal, LMU's Fernando Barba quickly put a pair of shots on frame, but both were saved by Torero goalkeeper Michael D'Arrigo.

The Lions had four shots in the second half, including three in the final 10 minutes as they pushed forward for the equalizer, but the attempts by Kyle Johanson, Phil Da Silva and Artur Jozkowicz all went just wide of the frame.

LMU closes out the 2011 season on Friday at Saint Mary's with kick off scheduled for 2 p.m.
