DRAWS FROM SOCAL INTERCOLLEGIATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
A trio of LMU men's tennis players reached the main draw of the 55th Southern California Intercollegiate Championship, as Robin Kiyabu, Daniel Simko, and Alex Wilton became the first trio in program history to reach the main draw.
Kiyabu met UCLA's Clay Thompson, falling 6-2, 6-1. Simko and Wilton also dropped matches, as Simko fell 6-1, 6-2 to UCLA's Warren Hardie. Wilton drew second-seed Emilio Gomez of USC, suffering a 6-0, 6-2 setback before falling into the consolation bracket.
All three players found themselves locked in thrilling three-set matches, but Wilton was the lone Lion to escape the round, advancing to play Garrett Taylor of San Diego tomorrow at 10 a.m. by way of a victory over UCSD's Sam Ling by scores of 5-7, 6-4, 10-7. Kiyabu lost to UC Riverside's Luis Gastao 5-7, 6-3, 10-4, while Simko fell to Taylor 6-3, 5-7, 10-3.
