SAN DIEGO - The LMU women's soccer team fell 2-1 to University of San Diego as the Toreros scored the game-winner with just under five minutes to play Sunday.

A pair of freshmen teamed up to score the Lions' then game-tying goal in the 20th minute as Emily Maletis netted her first collegiate goal off of a corner kick from Linda Bakker. The assist was Bakker's team-leading fourth of the season.

San Diego (9-7-0, 4-5-0 WCC) was the first to strike in the match when Taylor Housley collected a cross from Stephanie Ochs near the top right corner of the box and sent a shot past the reach of LMU goalkeeper Brittany Jagger.

Jagger, who collected 10 saves on Thursday at BYU, had another strong performance for the Lions, making nine saves Sunday. But the Toreros potent offense sent 20 total shots her way, and Housley eventually broke through a second time with a far-post shot from the right side of the box at the 85:08 mark.

The Lions (7-8-2, 1-4-1 WCC) managed just three shots, including the goal by Maletis and one shot each from Megan Gallagher and Tawni Martino. Gallagher's shot in the 65th minute was saved by USD's Courtney Parsons, her lone save on the day.

LMU is home for its final three matches of the 2011 season, beginning with WCC opponent Portland on Friday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. Santa Clara visits Sullivan Field on Oct. 30 to close out WCC play and the Lion's host Seattle on Nov. 5 to close out the year.
