ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The sixth-ranked LMU women's water polo team opened the season with a second straight win, defeating No. 12 Indiana, 10-5, in the teams' first game of the 2011 Michigan Kick-off in Ann Arbor, Mich., Saturday. The Lions were then shown my Stanford is ranked No. 1, falling 14-1 in the second game.
LMU and their defense was impressive early against the Hoosiers, jumping out to a 9-1 lead early in the fourth quarter before the Lions emptied the bench. Kristine Cato made 10 saves and allowed just one goal in three quarters of work. \
In the win Casey Flacks scored a trio of goals while Mary Ann Campos added goals six and seven in the early season. Alexandra Honny scored her first goal as a Lion.
Game two on the day saw the top-ranked Cardinal and their pressure defense frustrate the Lions as only Hana Gosney would tally a goal.
Day two isn't much easier, as they will face 15th-ranked Cal State Northridge at 5:25 a.m. (PT) and then No. 7 San Jose State at 10:30 a.m.
