LA JOLLA, Calif. -- In the second day of the UC San Diego Triton Invitational, the LMU men's water polo team racked up 31 goals and allowed just six in two games to sweep a pair of Western Water Polo Association foes at Canyonview Aquatic Center on Sunday. The Lions opened with a 10-3 win over No. 19 Air Force and then knocked-off La Verne 21-3 in the finale.

After allowing nine goals in a setback to open the tournament, the Lions' defense was impressive in the final three, allowing a combined nine goals against the WWPA's No. 11 UC San Diego, the 19th-ranked Falcons and La Verne.

The offense responded in kind, netting the most goals in a single game since they put up 21 against Cal Baptist on Sept. 1, 2007. All told, 14 different Lions scored on the day. Junior Edgaras Asajavicius led the Lions with five goals, scoring three in the win over Air Force.

Against the Falcons, the game was tied after one, but they scored four unanswered goals in the second quarter to take over the game. Senior Andy Stevens had three of his 11 saves in the second frame while allowing no goals.

After a 1-1 third quarter put the score at 6-2 entering the final frame, the Lions once again put up four goals in a quarter to put the game away. Charlie Horton and Tibor Forai added a pair of goals each in the win.

In the final game of the tournament for the Lions, they scored early and often, taking an 18-0 lead before La Verne scored. Freshman John Mikuzis and redshirt sophomore Colin Walters had three goals each as the Lions stretched their winning streak against the WWPA to 34, dating back to the 2007 season.

The Lions will have another weekend full of ranked opponents when they play Pepperdine on Saturday, Sept. 11 in Malibu and then play their home opener against USC on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m.
