Lions Swept by Wichita State

PROVO, Utah - The LMU volleyball team (4-4) was swept by Wichita State (5-2), 25-23, 25-19, 25-23, on Saturday in the second match of the BYU Molten Classic. LMU hit just .194 as a team, while allowing a .342 clip on the other side of the net in the loss.

Alyse Hensley attacked for an efficient .444 hitting percentage, notching eight kills on 18 swings. Felicia Arriola led the Lions in kills with 12, while junior Jasmine Rankins connected for eight kills on 25 attacks and three service aces. Arriola managed a double-double, teaming the 12 kills with 10 digs. Olivia Bailey and Paige Craine split time setting the offense, both passing-out 16 assists.

Emily Adney led all players in the match, posting 17 kills on 27 attacks for a .593 hitting percentage. Camri Zwiesler was also stellar, managing 15 kills at a .294 clip. Mary Elizabeth Hooper guided Wichita State to the .342 hitting percentage, dishing-out 45 helpers in the victory.

The Shockers hit .405 as a team in the first period, led by seven kills apiece from Adney and Zwiesler. Adney took just eight swings in the period to lead the team in hitting percentage. Rankins and Arriola each posted four kills on 11 attacks for the Lions, who hit .237 as a team, but it wasn't enough to outweigh the Shocker offense.

Four kills and a service ace from Adney helped Wichita State to the set victory in the second. Zwiesler also pitched-in four kills, while Arriola managed four for the Lions. Rankins posted her second ace in the period, as Craine also managed one.

The Wichita State block picked up in the third and final set, as the Shockers posted five of their eight total team blocks in that period, including a block solo and two block assists from Sarah McGee. In addition to the solid work on the block, Wichita State also hit .312, highlighted by six kills on 11 attacks from Adney. The Lions managed to improve on the block as well, notching all three of their team blocks in the period. Hensley posted a block solo and three kills to lead the Lions, while Rankins had a block solo and one block assist.

The Lions will finish play at the BYU Molten Classic today at 4 p.m. PT when they meet Houston.
