LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- For the first time since Feb. 27, the seventh-ranked LMU women's water polo team were on the wrong side of an outcome, falling to fourth-ranked UCLA, 8-4, at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center in non-conference action Thursday afternoon. UCLA held a 3-1 lead at the break and then scored the first three goals of the second half to go up 6-1. After Diana Romero's goal with 26 seconds left in the third quarter, UCLA's Kelsey McGinley answered with just 13 seconds left for a 7-2 margin.
The last second goal was a big one as LMU scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter. Mary Ann Campos scored at the 5:29 mark and Daisy Carrillo scored with 4:25 remining to cut the lead to three, 7-4.
However, Grace Reynolds scored her second goal of the game with 3:02 to play to stop the Lions late run.
