LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The eighth-ranked LMU women's water polo team, the top seed in the 2010 Western Water Polo Association Women's Water Polo Championship, defeated Cal State San Bernardino 19-1 in the quarterfinals on Friday to advance to their 12th straight semifinal.
The 19 goals is the most since 2007 as the Lions will face host Cal State Bakersfield Saturday at 2:20 p.m.
The Lions scored six goals in the second and third quarters and were never threatened against the Coyotes. The Lions improve to 25-4 on the season and win their 22nd straight against a WWPA foe. They are 9-0 this season.
All told 11 different Lions scored, including a season-best five goals from sophomore Kimberely Benedetti. Daisy Carrillo, Diana Romero, Casey Flacks and Gina Castagnola all scored a pair as the Lions equal its most goals in the WWPA tournament. They scored 19 against Chapman on April 24, 2006.
The 19 goals is the most since they scored a 20-10 win over Wagner in the 2007 NCAA tournament on May 12.
This will be the second meeting of the season against the Roadrunners. LMU defeated Cal State Bakersfield 10-7 on March 12. CSUB defeated Santa Clara 8-4.
