LOS ANGELES - On the heels of a complete-game, five-hit shutout, freshman Molly Medeiros was named the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Coastal Division Pitcher of the Week for April 19-25, the conference office announced Tuesday. The award is the first of her career as she becomes the fourth different Lion to be honored by the PCSC this season.
Medeiros (Saratoga, Calif.) did not allow an earned run all weekend, posting a 0.00 ERA and improving her PCSC record to a perfect 4-0 with a win over Santa Clara. After coming on in relief in Saturday's game one, Medeiros got the start in game two, tossing three innings of four-hit ball before leaving the game with LMU comfortably leading 8-1. She made sure to go the requisite number of innings in her next start, tossing a complete-game five-hitter for her second career shutout. Medeiros allowed just two extra-base hits all weekend, both doubles, as her ERA in conference play dropped to 1.58. She is the first LMU pitcher to open conference play 4-0 since Tiffany Pagano went 10-0 in 2007.
On the year, Medeiros is 8-6 with a 3.85 earned run average and seven complete games in 15 starts. She has 46 strikeouts in 92.2 innings. She ranks seventh in the PCSC in ERA and is tied for eighth in wins.
LMU currently sits in first place in the PCSC Coastal Division with a 9-3 conference mark, 22-18 overall. The Lions travel to San Diego this weekend with doubleheaders slated for noon and 2 p.m. on each day.
