St. George, Utah - Facing its third straight game against a ranked opponent, LMU's offense never got going as it dropped an 11-0 decision in five innings to #25 BYU on Friday in St. George, Utah. The Lions (12-14) were limited to two hits for the second straight game in the opening contest of the 1st Annual Pre-Conference Tournament.

BYU (21-8) scored a run in each of the first two innings before using a nine-run third to pull away. The Cougars took advantage of three walks and a Lion error to push across the game's first run in the first inning before Delaney Willard homered to lead off the second. The nine-run third saw BYU send 13 batters to the plate aided by a Caschjen Davis-Atagi two-run double and Angeline Quiocho's three-run home run.

Senior Melissa Dykema (8-8) was tagged with the loss after giving up 10 runs, although just five were earned as LMU committed two errors. She conceded seven hits and five walks in just 2 2/3 innings before being relieved by freshman Erica Grady, who allowed one run (unearned) on three hits.

Singles in the first inning by sophomore Kelly Sarginson and in the third by freshman Danielle Smith were the only hits that LMU could muster off of Paige Affleck, who went four innings for the win. Senior Darcy Pagnini saw her hitting streak end at seven games by going hitless in two at-bats.

LMU completes its non-conference schedule on Saturday with a noon game against Cal State Bakersfield before turning around for a rematch with BYU at 2:30 p.m.
