SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- LMU women's water polo split their two games in the final day of The Rodeo Tournament hosted by Santa Clara on Sunday. The Lions fell to No. 3 Cal, 11-3, but remained perfect in Western Water Polo Association play thanks to a 12-7 win over Colorado State.
The Lion move their record to 22-4 on the season and 8-0 in the WWPA. All four of the Lions' setbacks have come to teams in the nation's top-6. Junior Mary Ann Campos scored all three goals against Cal and added a season-best four against Colorado State to finish the day with seven of LMU's 15 goals.
Against the Bears, the Lions led after one, 2-1, but saw Cal score all three goals in the second period for a 5-2 lead at the break. Cal then outscored LMU 7-1 in the second half to pull away.
It was a different story in the final game against Colorado State as the Lions jumped out to a 10-2 lead at the break and cruised to another WWPA victory.
The Lions will play their final two regular season games of the year when they return home to host UC Irvine on Friday, April 16 at 3 p.m., and then on senior day they will host Pomona-Pitzer on Sunday, April 18 at 12 noon.
