FULLERTON, Calif. - LMU rallied from a 3-0 deficit for a 7-5 victory over UC Davis in the opening game Friday of the DeMarini Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. The Lions (3-4) snapped a three-game losing streak and got the Aggies back for UC Davis' 4-3 win in the season opener a month ago.
UC Davis jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead off senior Melissa Dykema (2-2) but she settled down, allowing the Lion offense to come alive. Sophomore Sam Fischer extended her hitting streak to eight games dating back to last season with a two-run single to cut it to 3-2 and a two-run Aggie error put the Lions ahead for the first time. Freshman Olivia Alvarez extended LMU's lead with an RBI single but UCD got back within one with a home run in the top of the sixth. Sophomore Kelly Sarginson would put an exclamation point on the win by driving home Fischer with a triple in the seventh.
LMU returns to the field with a pair of games Saturday, taking on Oregon State at 3:45 p.m., followed by #3 Florida at 6 p.m.
