Upcoming Race Info

LOS ANGELES - Five LMU boats will make the trip south this weekend for the 37th edition of the San Diego Crew Classic, America's Premier Spring Regatta, which will once again be contested Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28 in Mission Bay in San Diego. The Lions will race both the women's varsity eight, JV8 and novice along with the men's varsity eight and novice.

The men's varsity eight kicks things off at 7:30 a.m. with the first heat in the pursuit of the Cal Cup. LMU will line up alongside Trinity (CT), USC, Notre Dame, UCLA, and Pacific. There will be three preliminary heats, with the top two finishers in each heat qualifying for Sunday's Grand Final at 10:50 a.m. The 3-4 place finishers in each will race in the Petite Final at 8:40 a.m. on Sunday, with the 5-6 place boats coming back at 3:20 p.m. on Saturday for the 3rd Final.

The women's varsity eight gets its shot at the opening heat of their Cal Cup at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The Lions will go up against Sacramento State, Kansas State, University of British Columbia, Tulsa, Sonoma State, and UC Irvine. The women's 3rd Final is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday with the Petite Final on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

With the varsity heats over, the men's novice next takes to the water at 9:40 a.m. in a stacked heat against perennial heavyweights UC Irvine, Stanford, San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and Sonoma State. The quest for the Derek Guelker Memorial Cup continues with the Petite Final a few hours later at 5:30 p.m. and the Grand Final at 10:10 a.m. on Sunday.

The women's JV runs their heat at 10:20 a.m. for the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy. LMU will race Radcliffe, Washington State, Tulsa, and San Diego State, with the 3rd Final at 3:50 p.m. Saturday and the Petite Final (8:10 a.m.) and Grand Final (9:40 a.m.) both on Sunday.

The final LMU boat to race on Saturday morning is the women's novice, who push off at 11:15 a.m. for the Laurel V. Korholz Perpetual Trophy. The Lions are in a heat that includes USC, Saint Mary's, Minnesota, Pacific, and UC Santa Barbara, with the Petite Final at 5:40 p.m. on Saturday and the Grand Final at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
