LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Former Lion CJ Wilson (2001) will make his first career postseason start when he takes the hill for the Texas Rangers in the second game of the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday. The game can be viewed nationally on TBS beginning at 11:30 am PT.
Wilson finished the regular season with a 15-8 record and a 3.35 ERA over 33 starts and 204 innings of work. He managed three complete games and struck out 170 batters. Impressive after the All-Star break, he went 8-3 with a 3.36 ERA and 88 strikeouts to help guide Texas to the playoffs down the stretch.
With regards to his matchup against the Rays on Thursday, the lefty sported a 2.91 ERA in road games this year, and was 1-0 in his only start against the Rays in 2010. Wilson has held Tampa Bay to a .191 batting average against in his career.
While at LMU, Wilson posted a pair of saves while working as both a starter and a closer. Averaging nearly a strikeout per inning, he punched-out 72 hitters in 80.1 innings of work. An everyday player on the field and at the plate, Wilson batted .289 with 11 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 37 RBI in 2001.
